How Is College GPA Calculated?
The standard formula for calculating college GPA involves three steps. First, convert each letter grade into a grade point (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0). Second, multiply each course's grade point by its credit hours to get "quality points." Third, divide the total quality points by the total credit hours attempted. The result is your GPA on the 4.0 scale.
Example: If you earn a B+ (3.3) in a 3-credit course and an A (4.0) in a 4-credit course, your total quality points are (3.3 Γ 3) + (4.0 Γ 4) = 9.9 + 16 = 25.9. Dividing by total credits (7) gives a GPA of 3.70.
College GPA for International Students
